Enquiries and visits Enquiries for admission should be made to the Head Teacher. A visit gives you the opportunity to meet the staff and children, and to discuss your hopes for your child with the Head Teacher. You can arrange a visit to the school at any time, alternatively, we hold several Open Days throughout the year when you are welcome to come and see us in action. View our Open Days here. The main point of entry is at 4+ years, but children are welcome to join the school at any time if a place is available.
Criteria When offering a place, preference will be given to those who registered earliest and those with siblings at the School.A child’s ability to fit in comfortably into the existing year group will also be taken into account.
We make reasonable adjustments for any child that has learning differences or difficulties. Children for entry from Year 2 upwards (age 6+) are invited to an informal assessment. This is to ensure that our expectations of them are fair for when they join us.We may also ask for a report from the child’s current school.
Entry procedures/timetable 1. After receipt of the prospectus, please do come and visit us so that you can experience the atmosphere, meet the staff and see the high standards - just telephone the school for an appointment or join us at one of our Open Days. 2. Registration of your child can be at any time before or after your visit, please be aware that date of registration is one of the criteria for determining the start date at the school.
3. Once registered, your child is entered on the list for possible entry at your preferred entry date. 4. Depending on the age of entry the following procedures will occur approximately a year before your son or daughter is due to join • Reception (4 to 5 year olds). A formal offer will be sent to you. • Years 1 to 6 (5 to 11 year olds).Your child will be invited to spend a morning with the current Year Class to undertake a very informal assessment. A formal offer is made only after the assessment. 5. On acceptance of an offer of a place you will be sent a Welcome Pack containing the details relevant to entry, together with dates for your child to visit the school again and spend some time with the children they will be joining. This pack is usually sent out in the term prior to entry.
Allowances are made for any learning differences a child may have, and reasonable adjustments are made to ensure that disabled children are not treated less favourably because of their disability. Where the school feels the child would struggle, other schools may be recommended. We reserve the right to vary the entry procedures and assessments at any time after registration has taken place. The School’s Terms and Conditions are available upon request; it is a comprehensive document that is legally binding, reflecting agreed and established good practice.
Fees From September 2009 the fees are £2,020 per term and are applicable to all year groups. The School is a member of the West Berkshire Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership. Membership allows The Cedars School to offer 4 year old children the Government Nursery Grant.
